World Kids Colouring Day 2010

This is the third year we are partnering Hans Art and Steadtler Singapore in running this event.  This year, it is held at West Coast Mall.

The rationale and intent of the event is based on Steadtler's belief that children are natural-born artists – and colouring being an important part of their development.  This year, the world wide event will support the child rights organisation Save the Children with this special promotional day.  In this colouring campaign, children the world over are invited to colour and sell their most beautiful works. The proceeds will then be donated to support children in conflict affected states, offering them an opportunity to receive a better education and a chance for a brighter future.

We worked hard for 3 hours managing and controlling the crowd, ensuring that the event runs smoothly and that everyone was happy.  At the end, we were given free lunch and drinks.  It feels good to have contributed to a good cause.

Centennial Scout Rally 2010

The Scouts met at 0700 hrs and set off to HCI (Hua Chong Institution) by bus. Upon arrival, we attended a 10 min staff briefing and were assigned our tasks. Our job was to display troop flags and assist in the running of the games segment. At 1200 hrs we broke for lunch but many units started to arrive at this time so we had to take turns to do our job. It was quite tiring as we needed to work fast.
By the time the rally started, there were well over 3000 Cubs, Scouts, Ventures, Rovers, Leaders, Commissioners and Family members who filled the whole stadium and the surrounding area.
160 SE Cub Scouts and their friends and family members were among the participants in the stadium.  Cubs tried their hand at 36 game stalls set up by various Districts. They also participated in a fancy dress competition using recycled materials, and participated in tele-match games organised and run Temasek Raccoons with us assisting.
We also witnessed the Award Ceremony of some recipients of the Centenary Medal for significant contribution to Scouting in the last 100 years.  Another highlight was the completion of the first centenary cycling feat of 100 km and had fun singing songs led by the Ukelele band.
The event was very fun and was graced by GOH Mr Teo Chee Hean, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence. He also tied the last reef knot on the mass formation which outlined the significant "100" formation and "Reef-a-deed" completed in 10 seconds.

Farewell, Dr Goh...

SE pays its last respect to Former Deputy Prime Minister Dr Goh Keng Swee who had passed away after a long illness.  Dr Goh was Singapore's first Finance Minister and later Education Minister.  He was an instrumental figure in the development of Singapore from its first steps at nationhood through to the 1980s.
On 22 May 2010, as it was also the day of the Scout Rally, PL Maverick Zebra and APL Gregarious Monkey represented Singapore Scout Association as well as SE Scout Group at the public wake at Parliament House where Dr Goh's body lies in state.

Channel News Asia estimated that over 18,000 other visitors had also paid their final respects that day.
